Egypt launches a hepatitis-free village project in Africa

The Liver Patients Association convoy conducts a medical survey of the first village in Nigeria

 

The Dakahlia Liver Patients Care Association, headed by Prof. Dr. Jamal Shiha, announced the launch of the “African Village Free of Hepatitis Viruses” project in cooperation with the African Society for Liver Diseases in the village of Shabu in Nasarawa Province, Nigeria, from December 6 to 17.

The Liver Patients Care Association explained in a statement today, Tuesday, December 5, that the convoy comes within the framework of the Egyptian State and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s efforts to help African countries get rid of hepatitis viruses and under the umbrella of the National Alliance for Civil and Development Action.

The statement added that the convoy consists of seven members of the medical staff specialized in the field of internal diseases, diagnostic radiology, and medical analyzes from the Egyptian Liver Hospital affiliated with the Liver Patient Care Association. Members of the Scientific Committee of the African Union and officials from the Ministry of Health in Nasarawa Province are contributing to this project, in addition to To a number of NGOs in Nigeria.

This convoy aims to conduct a medical survey to detect hepatitis viruses among the village’s population, which number more than 3,000 people, and to provide the necessary treatment for those infected. In addition, it also detects liver and other digestive system diseases.

The project is part of broader efforts to address the problem of hepatitis viruses on the African continent, as it is considered one of the most prominent health challenges facing the African continent. Through this initiative, the Liver Patient Care Association hopes to provide a model that can be replicated in other villages in Africa to fight hepatitis viruses
