In Celebration of the International Day of Charity

The International Day of Charity is celebrated every 5th of September, with the goal of mobilizing people to help others. It was officially declared by the UN General Assembly in 2012.

The 5th of September was chosen to commemorate the passing away of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 in recognition of her work in helping the suffering humanity.

In November 2019, the Egyptian Liver Foundation, headed by Prof. Dr. Gamal Shiha, carried out different medical procedures free of charge, including 2277 medical tests, 348 Endoscopy, 367 Transient elastography (Fibroscan), 1056 Ultrasound, 651 X-Rays, 315 CT scan, 15 ERCP, 7 EUS, and 58 Hepatic arterial injection therapy for liver tumors. Additionally, 377 patients were examined in the Surgical Clinic, 78 in the Pediatric Clinic, 117 in the Pain Clinic, and 47 in the Heart Clinic. Various treatments were also provided for 1869 patients, as well as Hepatitis B Vaccination for 1588 patients.

The International Day of Charity has been created with the aim to encourage social responsibility and support for charitable causes around the world, signaling a reminder to the importance of giving and compassion.
